We stopped for lunch in Lindau, Germany. Picture perfect little town on Lake Constance. I sent a postcard home to the family and then had a good lunch and great apple strudel. We then went to Reutte, Austria which is just over the German border by Fussen.
Our hotel, Gutshof zum Schluxen, is part of a little farm. I went out and fed the horses carrots and got all muddy. Who cares, it was fun. I thought the goats would keep me awake at night, but the ear plugs worked their magic. The food here was plentiful and tasty. The little bar was fun too.
I was so excited to see Schloss Neuschwanstein. The castle! It was like something out of a fairy tale. I wonder if Mad King Ludwig really had a chance to enjoy his toy? It didn't sound like it from our tour guide. Christoph had a nice picnic for us after the castle. Good beer and sandwiches.
The weather wasn't very good, so no luge ride for us. Bummer man! We went to see Wieskirche, a Barouque church outside of Fussen. I was more impressed with the tiny chapel containing the statue that wept in 1739. I signed my name in the little book and my prayer was that no child ever suffers. We had some yummy doughnut type things outside this church. I can't remember the name of them, but our guide, Christoph said his Grandma used to make them when he was a child living in East Germany.

I loved it here, maybe because I'm 1/2 German from my Mom's side. Who knows? Hotel has a nice bucolic feel too it and would be a great place to bring the kids. I didn't even mind the rain. The castle, mountains, lakes, swans, horses, food, beer and genuinly nice people. I look forward to coming back to spend more time in Deutchland. Perhaps I should learn how to say more than Guttentag. Next stop, the romantic puddle that is Venice.
