Life is Good in Greece

Kardamyli

Day 6
We had our free day here in this picture postcard perfect seaside village. I loved, loved, loved this place. Did I mention I loved it? Kardamyli is what I pictured rural Greece to be. Rugged hiking with an ocean view. Glorious flowers, olive trees, ancient buildings. It was a great free day. We spent two nights here.

Everywhere I went in Kardamyli was picturesque. A place this pretty makes anybody happy to be alive. A hiking paradise, rocky beachs, good food and a perfect hotel. This was a place I would return too again and again and ...........
beautiful flowers at our hotel
A view of the Agia Sofia on my hike On my free day I went for a hike in the morning and layed on the rocky beach in the afternoon.A perfect day. An ocean view through the olive tree
Our hotel was INCREDIBLE!!!  A few membersof our tour group and David  hiked up to this hotel because the Espidres was full.  It was well worth the walk.  Our room at the Hotel Vardia  had a kitchenette, nice bathroom, lovely balcony with cool ocean breezes and tranquil views of the sea and Kardamyli's old town.  By far, this is my favorite hotel on our entire tour of Greece.  I can't say enough good things about it.  Thank you David, for bringing Becky and I coffee and filters for our coffee maker.  David heard Becky say how much she enjoys a cup of joe right when she wakes up.  He was so thoughtful.

The website for this hotel has many pictures, but I don't think they do the Vardia justice.  You will have to see it for yourself.  This property was built in 2005, but they built it to look old and fit in with the surrounding countryside.

The breakfast at Hotel Vardia was great too.  They had All-bran and other cereal, many different kinds of fruit, hardboiled eggs, sandwich makings, the list goes on and on.  They even had free internet.  One more bonus, Vera, the resident friendly old dog.  She was always around at breakfast with a doggie smile and a wagging tail.
A bike as transportation or a flower basket I wandered around old town after I came down from my hike. This pretty little window was on the church of Agios Spiridon in Old Kardamyli.I saw the bike in an alley walking up from the beach. byzantine frame on marble window at the church
I lazed away the afternoon on the beach. I wandered around and peered through this rock and saw some of my tour members. Nice Greek guys brought me drinks and snacks. I guess they thought I looked thirsty! We didn't speak the same language. All I can saw is Yassas, Kalimera and Efharisto. That's Hello, Good Morning and Thank you. The Greek guys were very nice and gentlemen at all times. Charile and Linda through the rocks on the beach
The girls having dinner at Lela's Taverna
We enjoyed dinner at Lela's Taverna. The food was great as promised by our guide, David. I had the pork. I wish I could make a pork roast taste like that at home. I tasted olive oil, oregano, lemon and I think curry.
Let's go to the quaint old town of Kastania
